The village is home to a historic gompa (Buddhist monastery) that is believed to be several hundred years old. The monastery contains ancient murals, thangka paintings, and Buddhist scriptures.

Melamchi Ghyang can be reached by trekking from Sundarijal (on the outskirts of Kathmandu) in about 2-3 days, or from Melamchi Bazaar in about 1-2 days.
